Turning business goals into reality

Richard L. Tifone

Rick has over 35 years of business experience.  Rick started his career in software development at General Dynamics and Alcoa. His focus on Telecom software lead to a consulting position at Wang Laboratories. Half way through his nine year stint at Wang, Rick transitioned into hardware sales. Rick continued selling hardware and software for Tandem Computers. In 1993 Rick was hired by a German company (Danet GmbH) to build its US subsidiary (Danet, Inc). As the first US employee, Rick decided to leverage the German parent's telecom billing system expertise as the cornerstone of the new business. Rick was successful in marketing and selling to the former Bell Operating companies (RBOCs) and the new PCS carriers. By 1996, Danet, Inc had exceeded $10M in annual sales, $2M in pretax profit, and more than 70 US employees. Danet was recognized by the Pittsburgh Technology Council as the fastest growing company in the $10M to $25M range. Over the next 6 years, Rick guided Danet Inc through dramatic market changes (PCS boom and bust, CLEC boom and bust), a transition from a software company to a system integration and consulting company, a transition for a single business unit to three business units. Rick conducted business throughout the US and Canada, South America, Europe, and the Middle East. Since 2003, Rick has been providing consulting services focused on Strategic Planning, Exit Planning, Business Advisory, and Capital Acquisition Strategy. Rick earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh's Katz School of Business and Certified Exit Planner (CExP) Designation from The Business Enterprise Institute.
